Mindfulness is a way of being in the present moment, a way of being aware of our thoughts and feelings with acceptance and kindness.
Mindfulness helps us to recognise our negative patterns of thinking, and to realise that we can let them go.
When we criticise and judge ourselves we make our lives much harder, mindfulness gives us a way of making friends with ourselves.
Research has shown that practicing mindfulness has huge benefits for both our mental and physical health.
The course we run uses the insights from this research, and covers practical techniques to reduce our stress levels and increase our well-being.
It has eight weekly sessions in which:
- We learn formal practices to develop mindfulness – these are meditations where we learn to focus our attention on specific things such as our breathing, or our whole body or on developing kindness.
- We learn some ‘mindfulness in action’ practices which are little things we can do in everyday life to help us let go of stress.
- We also cover information to help us understand how our minds work, so we can have more control and choice about what we do.
